Mindfulness has gone mainstream. Minnesotans are now practicing it in retreat centers, in schools and even at work. Studies show it can ease depression, anxiety and pain — and maybe other conditions as well.
Two experts joined MPR News host Angela Davis to talk about mindfulness meditation. They discussed what it is, how to do it and what the research says about how it affects us.
Alex Haley is the mindfulness program lead at the University of Minnesota's Center for Spirituality and Healing, and Maureen Doran is the lead facilitator for mindfulness training at Allina Health's Penny George Institute for Health and Healing.
They were also joined for part of the hour by Theresa Glomb, a professor at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management who has studied mindfulness in the workplace.
