A CDC survey found the number of people reporting recent onset of anxiety or depression rose significantly in the last year, with the largest increases seen among young adults. But even before the pandemic, before a racial uprise, before the stress of the news cycles – young people were struggling with their mental health.

 
 
 

Mental Health Care Policy

A coalition of mental health leaders is proposing a “Unified Vision” to reform care and policy to focus on earlier identification and support for people when they feel their first symptoms, instead of the common practice of delivering care only after someone experiences a serious, sometimes dangerous mental health problem.

Maternal Mental Health

Many women experience some level of depression during and after pregnancy. The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates, up to 80% of all new mothers experience “postpartum blues” in the first couple weeks after birth. About 1 in 5 women have more severe perinatal depression during pregnancy or up to a year after birth. (One in 10 men get postpartum depression, too.) Learn more.
